Dr. Stefan Malecek is a retired psychotherapist, a United States Army veteran and has spent the last 4 decades studying: Shame, Addiction, Causes of Mental Illness and Trauma. Stefan was born in St. Louis, Missouri.

He is an author of both non-fiction and fiction novels (The Paul Marzeky Mystery Series) which can be read and enjoyed in any order.


In his latest book, Crucible of Shame: Healing the Societal Roots of Addiction and "Mental Illness Stefan details the intimate relationship between shame, addictions, and "mental illness". His non-fiction books, (The Paul Marzeky Mystery Series) include Tales of Combat Psychiatry, Spirals of Time, Unwitting Witnesses, Alchemy's Angel, The Gilded Edges Of Shadow, and Excelsior.

During his army service in Vietnam, Stefan served as a Social Work/Clinical Psychology Technician. After Vietnam, he moved to San Francisco where he worked for 17 years in various aspects of in-patient psychiatry. He got his Ph.D. in Psychology from Saybrook University in 2006 and retired from his trauma-recovery private practice in 2013.

He is living a quiet, private life on the island of Maui, Hawaii and is deeply committed to The Mankind Project community.
