Bestseller Status: Confirmed
Penny Altmann lives in France, in La Mayenne, with her husband and various animals in an old, rather draughty (her words) farmhouse in the middle of nowhere. She has five children all married with children of their own.
By profession, Penny is a portrait artist. But she has enjoyed writing since she was very young. She has written three children’s books; she wrote them so she could illustrate them but hoped one day to get them published. But this book, Anna's War seemed to write itself and so she decided now was the time to take the plunge and get it out there!
When Penny and her husband were in their early thirties, they moved with their children to Normandie and the Chaumière was where they bought up their children. The ‘big house’ behind belonged to a family who they became firm friends with. During the occupation of France, it was the headquarters of German soldiers.
The town of St. Samson is real, but the name has been changed. Most of the shops and Le Café Du Sport are still there. She visits there frequently as it has so many memories of years gone by.
