Cece was born in small-town Minnesota, and grew up in a house filled with music. She went on to study music throughout her academic career, beginning with high school at the Perpich Center for Arts Education, followed by a dual bachelor degree program (in music and linguistics) at Macalester College in St. Paul, MN, and then a unique dual Master’s Degree in voice and composition from the Lamont School of Music at the University of Denver. Cece spent a year studying the Irish language and Irish traditional music in Ireland, and has performed solo and in ensemble through the United States and around the world.

In 2013, she created An American Songline, an ongoing project dedicated to preserving and sharing the story of America through unique, experiential musical performances. Cece set out on a pioneering musical journey along America’s first transcontinental road, singing in every state along the way. She published a book and album based on her travels in 2015. In 2017, she debuted an all-new program, The Songs of World War I, with a full-length CD and companion booklet.

In addition to being a world-class vaudeville singer, Cecelia Otto is an in-demand crowdfunding consultant. Having successfully used Kickstarter and Indiegogo to fund various American Songline projects, Cece understands the creativity, hard work and dedication it takes to conduct a successful crowdfunding campaign, and she wrote The 10 Commandments of Crowdfunding to allow others to pursue their dreams as she did.
